Crews work from the basket of Truck 39 to remove the roof

3/8-E233 responded with 4 for the RIT assignment for Lower Frankford Twp at 05:52 this morning for the House Fire. E233 arrived and set up RIT staging on Side "D" of the structure. Crews attempted an interior attack but were driven out when the roof collapsed. E233 crew stood by for several hours while crews worked to extinguish the fire. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim. E233 was released at 10:24

Monday Building Update

Harrisburg Glass begins installing the windows in the social hall

Watch room walls are insulated and ready for drywall

Drywall installation begins

Painting is all but finished in the apparatus bay

Murphy's worked all weekend to finish the painting

Doors and Windows are installed in the new vestibule entrance

3/8-Crews are still working hard getting things finished up in the apparatus bay. Murphy's worked all day Saturday to get the paint applied to the apparatus bay; only a few small areas need finished up. The exterior of the building was power washed on Saturday and Sunday. Doors are installed in the vestibule and the metal doors are in place in the storage rooms in the bay area. Moyer Communications ran the wiring for the watch room so the drywall crew can get the watch room finished. The building was bustling all over today as the nice weather allows work to move along.

Snow Melts, Grass Fires Start

3/6-Brush and Tanker 33 responded at 13:53 to I81 at MM50 for a grass fire in the median. Units arrived to find a 200' strip on fire and put the booster line into service. It appeared the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette. Residents and those traveling through the area are reminded to use caution, even though we had a good snow pack, conditions are very dry the next several weeks before things begin to "green" up.

Back to Back Crashes on the "Pike"

Crew members from E233 secure the vehicles

3/5-The 3rd ad 4th calls on Friday were back to back accidents on the Carlisle Pike. E233 responded at 17:28 to the 6400 block of Carlisle Pike for an unknown injury accident with Co. 31. E233 was canceled enroute at 17:34. As members were leaving the station, an accident was heard at Locust Point Rd and Carlisle Pike. Members loaded the Engine just as the tones were being dropped for an unknown injury accident. E233 arrived quickly with the road blocked and a patient on the roadway. Members immediately took patient care and made an assessment requesting additional ambulances, a Medic Unit, and aero medical be placed on standby. Engine and R31 cleared the first crash to respond and provided assistance to Company 33, then landed the helicopter in the Trinity Church parking lot. Units remained on scene assisting EMS with multiple patients before clearing the scene at 18:52. E233, Sq33, and Traffic 33 responded with a total manpower of 13. For the day, crews handled four accidents and a brush fire.

3/3-Fire Prevention programs were conducted Wednesday and Thursday at a local preschool. Both days, crews explained our turnout gear and air packs, talked to the kids about fire safety, and showed the Sesame Street Video. Thanks to the staff at the preschool for inviting us down and to the crews both days for taking time to speak to the kids.

Looking at the Outside

Bay Door installation complete and we are seeing the wall pack lights
Windows have been installed on the rear of the building

New public entrance and delivery entrance

3/2-With the nice weather this week, we decided to take a walk around the outside so you could see the exterior work and what has been accomplished since we have posted outside shots last.

March Off to a Quick Start

3/2-March started off quick running 5 calls on Monday. E233 responded at 05:57 to assist Company 31 with an auto accident on RT114 at I81. The Engine cleared at 06:27. At 10:30, Sq33 handled a medical assist on Hathaway Dr. At 14:15, Both Engines and Tanker responded to a first due truck trailer fire on the PA Turnpike at MM229 WB. Units arrived to find a working fire in an open top 48' trailer hauling construction debris. 2 lines were pulled from E133 and crews accessed using ladders placed against the trailer. After flowing several thousand gallons, crews declared it under control, however with the amount and type of materials, we were unable to fully extinguish the fire. Turnpike authorities would not allow the trailer to be unloaded so crews broke down. Thanks to E45 and T31 for the assist. E313 responded on the transfer, but was canceled enroute. Sq33 handled another medical assist at 16:08 on Cherry Ln. Company 33 and 45 were sent back to the Turnpike for a rekindle of the truck fire at 17:01. Chief 33 held the response to Company 33. Crews once again flowed more water into the trailer. Units cleared at 17:47. The trailer was marked as a controlled burn and left to Turnpike officials.

Blast from the Past

3/1-Pictured above is the Old Squad 33 (1970 Dodge) after being purchased, repainted "Tuckey Blue" and relettered by Tuckey Restoration in Carlisle, PA. The Squad saw service with Company 33 from 1990-1998. Previously, it ran as Squad 27 who purchased it new from Swab Wagon Company. Thanks to M. Snyder for finding the picture.

Morning Crash in Middlesex

2/27-E233 responded with 5 at 08:27 Saturday morning to S. Middlesex Rd just prior to Old Stonehouse Rd for an accident. Units arrived to find a single vehicle into a tree with the operator out of the vehicle. FF Souder came upon the accident while working and was able to assist with patient care until the arrival of EMS. Crews secured the vehicle then assisted EMS packaging the patient. E233 remained until the vehicle was removed from the scene. Fire Police had the road closed during the incident. Units were available at 09:03. Later, at 16:49, E133, T33, and Brush 33 responded with 1st alarm units to 77 Mountain Ln in Silver Spring Twp for a chimney fire. Due to tight access, Chief 31 advised units to stage on Wertzville Rd. Tankers 19 and 20 and R31 made access to the scene and handled the incident. Staged apparatus cleared at 17:16.

It Smells Like Poop!

Crews wait on the pay loader to move manure to access the fire

Looks like the Deputy has an "enclosed" pump panel

2/26-E133 and T33 responded to 145 Boyer Rd for a manure shed on fire at 07:15 this morning. E133 arrived 1st in and pulled an attack line to the rear of the shed where fire had burnt through. The farmer then used a pay loader to remove the manure from the area which needed soaked down. All units were clear around 08:30. The high winds added to the mess causing every scoop of dry manure to blow and stick to the apparatus and personnel.

Friday Building Update

2/26-Crews were at it today despite the high winds. The majority of the work is now concentrated on the interior portions of the new building and many areas of the old building. Tuckey is working on HVAC duct work in the social hall and Stoneberger is working on running new drain lines to the expanded appliance area of the old kitchen. The painters continue to work on applying the good coat of paint to the interior walls and storage rooms. All in all, everything is coming along fine.

Wednesday Building Update

Pettibone is loaded with a stack of man doors

2/22-This afternoon the man doors and bay doors arrived. Baker Door Company began to install the bay doors which have glass panels. Not only will this help provide more light into the apparatus bay area but will also allow our friends and neighbors in the community to see the equipment inside.

2/22-As we move closer to occupying the apparatus bays, crews are working very hard on the interior. Primer paint coats have been completed and Murphy will begin applying the actual walls colors this week. Tuckey continues to work on the boiler, HVAC units, and backup ventilation system. 55 gallon drums arrived this morning containing a jell type additive for the in-floor heating system. Framing inspection was completed this morning as well for all of the areas containing the metal wall studs clearing the way for drywall to begin. Kepler finished laying up the front wall on Friday and began applying the split face block this morning. Diamond Sprinklers continue to work on piping for the sprinkler system and the crew from Superior Metal is on site working on the new hood system.

Back to Back Runs on Saturday Evening

2/20-After three days with no calls, Companies 33 and 31 were dispatched at 17:07 to the 1st block of Old Stonehouse Rd for an accident. Chief 131 arrived quickly and reported a vehicle into a pole with three minor injuries. E233, Sq33, and Traffic 33 made the response and was assisted by R31. Crews stabilized the vehicle then assisted EMS with patients. Fortunately, the pole held phone and tv cable lines and crew were able to operate directly underneath. While on scene, Engine and Tanker 33 were dispatched to Allenberry Resort in Monroe Twp for a furnace fire. E233 responded from the accident, and a driver was sent to the station for the Tanker. E233 arrived and staged for just a short time before being placed available. T33 was canceled before response. Co. 33 had 18 personnel turn out.

2010 In-House Training Schedule

Friday Morning Update

Painting continued this morning as more black is spraying on the roof

Kepler's crew back at work again setting the new front wall

And it looked so nice with just the plastic

2/19-This morning, the masons arrived and began laying up the new front wall. With the warmer temperatures they should be to the roof later today. Provisions for the split face are in place so they should be following right along next week if the weather holds.

Thursday Update

Early Thursday morning, the front of the Building Looked like this

45 minutes later it looked like this-front wall is gone

Stairs to the mezzanine were installed

2nd staircase at other end of the bay

New boiler is installed

Diamond Sprinkler makes the connection to the main water line

2/18-A look around the building yesterday showed a lot of work being performed. First and foremost, the front wall of the 1955 side of the original building had to be totally demolished due to issues with the block rendering it not able to be salvaged. In a matter of just a few minutes, the wall was gone. Bracing had been placed inside to old social hall to support the roof. The stairs also arrived and crews began installing them. The sprinkler system has been connected to the riser and work continues to get the boiler ready to go.

Wednesday Building Update

Pad ready to accept the new generator Wednesday morning

Block filler has been completed on most of the walls

Rooms off the "horseshoe" also have been completed with the filler

As of Wednesday morning, only one of the high walls needed sprayed

New 300 kW Diesel Generator is now in place.

2/17-Murphy painting is progressing well inside the apparatus bay as the block filler is being applied to the walls. CV Services installed the new generator and is in process of preparing it for operation.

Busy Two Months Get Us Over 100 Early

2/13-Monroe's Crew running two calls during the banquet got us over 100 Calls for the year already. It has been quite busy with calls so far this year and is probably the earliest in the fire company's history that we broke 100 in under two months.

Annual Company Banquet

2/13-Our annual fire company awards banquet was held on Saturday, February 13th at the Comfort Suites in Carlisle. Over 170 members and invited guests filled the banquet hall and took time to relax and recap the past year of the fire company. Special thanks to the crew from Monroe Fire Company who staffed E233 while our members took "the night off".

Another Snowstorm

2/10-Once again, the station was well staffed throughout the most recent blizzard, even though many over our calls were during daylight hours. In the two day period, crews responded to 8 medical assists, 1 fire police deployment, 1 fire alarm, 1 structure fire, and 1 vehicle accident. Thanks to everyone once again for getting the rigs on the street.

AFA Turns Into Working Fire

2/10-At 08:39 in the middle of the blizzard, Companies 31 and 33 were dispatched to a fire alarm on Bent Creek Blvd. E31 arrived, gained access using the Knox Key and began investigating. A smoke condition was encountered on the 2nd floor. Command then upgraded the box to a structure assignment which added the 2nd Engine and Tanker from 33, Rescue and Tanker 31, Hampden, Citizens, Washington, and Truck 45 (CFRS). E133 arrived and took the rear of the building and sent its crew inside to assist E31. Units were able to locate the fire in the ceiling in several rooms on the 2nd floor. High rise packs and leader lines were deployed from E31. E330 laid in from a hydrant to supply Truck 30 which also located fire behind the parapet at the roof near HVAC units. E233 picked up the hydrant to supply E330. T33 hooked to E31 to supply if needed. Crews were able to control the fire quickly and begin salvage operations. The investigation revealed part of the flat roof structure had failed causing a rigid gas line connection to an HVAC to fail and feed the gas fire. Crews functioned well together despite the high winds and blinding snow throughout the incident.

Adopt A Hydrant

2/10-With yet another Winter Storm hitting us hard and as snow is piling up along the streets, residents and businesses are asked to Adopt A Fire Hydrant that may be nearby. This will save the fire company precious time in the event we need to respond to your home or business. Please take the time and shovel out around the hydrant so the it is visible and will allow us to make the proper connections. Most hydrants are equipped with a "marker flag" enabling us to see them, however taking the extra time to shovel the hydrant would be much appreciated.

Painting Begins

Murphy Painting begins the ceiling this morning

At least we have a black roof on something

2/8-Murphy Painting began spraying the ceiling this morning in the new apparatus bays. Work continues on many areas inside the bays as we move closer to a future move in date. The boiler arrived and is in process of being installed. Look for more updates later this week.

Thanks Ladies

Construction makes it rough to find a place to eat

That's all we have to cook with?

2/7-With members staffing the station, some of "our" ladies got together and made lunch and dinner on Saturday. Chief 133 actually went to Wegman's for groceries (believe it, it happened). Once he returned, the task was to find something to cook with. The ladies brought crock pots and we moved the gas grill into the kitchen. All in all, with the social hall cluttered from the construction, we found a place to sit and eat together.

Storm packs some Punch

2/6-7-As the storm rolled in Friday, members made plans for the weekend. The station was staffed Friday and Saturday throughout the day and overnight. Six (6) calls for service were handled, somewhat less than what we thought, but the fact that it was a weekend with less traveling made it better. Saturday, crews responded to two gas leaks, 2 medical assists, and an accident. Sunday, Tanker 33 responded at 01:20 to Carroll Twp, York County for a House Fire. T33 arrived and staged for about 20 minutes, then released without service. E133 was alerted for a transfer as a result of the fire but was canceled when the originally dispatched Engine responded.

Friday's work Detail consisted of removing the Engine Bay Ceiling

Once again, the dumpster got full before we finished the job

2/6-Thursday, the remainder of the apparatus floor was poured and finished off, including the watch room. Friday, members began removing the ceiling from the current apparatus bay. The dumpster was placed inside the bays in order to make up time to finish before the storm set in. All of the apparatus was parked in neighbors driveways once again. Members finished just as the snow was starting to fall. Thanks to everyone that helped out again. The plan is to finish this on Thursday, February 11th.

January Report

2/3-For the month of January, the company responded to 60 calls making a quick and busy start to the month, in fact there were only two days in the month in which we did not have a call. The busiest call type was Rescue Calls with 23. Total manpower responding was 633 which averaged 11 per call. The busiest day of the week was Monday with 12. The remainder of the report will be added soon.

We Have A Floor

Crews also began demolition on the parapet wall over the old building

Parapet wall removed

2/3-Rose Hill Concrete got an early start this morning pouring the 1st half of the apparatus bay floor. No problems were encountered and the remaining half will be completed Thursday. APW also completed demolition of the old parapet wall on the original building. Due to issues with the concrete block, this had to be removed. A new reinforced parapet will be added. Also, the fill-in block for the old bays needs removed and re-laid. All of the brick facade will be removed this week and replaced with split face to match the new building.

Early Morning Accident on I81

Single Vehicle impacted the Bus

The morning bus is going to be late
E2 accessed the wrong direction from Exit 52 per Chief 7

2/2-Company 33 with R45 and MP45 responded to I81 in the area of MM53 for a vehicle accident. E233 arrived and immediately assisted EMS with packaging due to the cold temperatures. Additional lighting was deployed and used to provide heat to the victim. Crews checked both vehicles for hazards and cleaned up debris so the highway could be reopened. Units cleared around 06:45

Tuesday Building Update

Looking towards Locust Point Rd

A look down from the mezzanine

Looking towards the rear of the building

Members look at the 2nd floor

2/2-Tuesday evening after the company meeting, we had the opportunity to take a "look see" at the progress of the tubing for the heated floor. The entire floor is ready to go as concrete will be arriving Wednesday morning. We also took a look around the 2nd floor portion above the live-in wing. It appears there is plenty of room there for future growth.
