6/26-Today, the Duty Crew loaded E233 and the Chief's Buggy and headed to Red Robin at 6560 Carlisle Pike for the lunch. Just after the order was taken, the crew responded to a grass fire on the Turnpike at MM230. Just prior to entering the gate the call was canceled and we returned for the meal. Thanks to the crew of 7 that came out today.

6/23-Tuesday night training focused on some basic training on ladder, ropes, and hand line practices. Additional pictures can be found on the training page.

Wires Down Cause Power Outage

6/22-At 10:52, E133 and Chief 133 (Horning) responded to Eleanor Dr in New Kingstown for a Pole and Wires Down. The units arrived to find two poles knocked down by a truck driver making a delivery to a warehouse and was also blocking Silver Spring Ambulance's ramp. Pole numbers were reported to PPL and they arrived within 30 minutes. A72 was able to exit their building a drive across the grass to place themselves back in service. PPL released the Fire Company after securing power. This caused a power outage in the general New Kingstown Area for about an hour. E133 responded to a fire alarm just after clearing the wires call at 11:30. Earlier in the day at 08:48, E233 handled a transfer to Co. 50 (Penn Twp) while they operated on an accident in Shippensburg Twp.

Father's Day Breakfast a Success

6/22-A total of 492 people turned out for the annual father's day breakfast buffet at the station. The normal rush between 08:30 and 10:00 kept the line cooks moving to keep up with the crowd that at one point lined into the apparatus bay. Thank you to those who came out and supported us again. Our next breakfast will be September 20th as we break for the summer months.

Afternoon Accident on I81

6/21-Crews from New Kingstown and Silver Spring were dispatched at 16:28 to I81 SB in the Area of Exit 57 for a vehicle overturned with confinement. Chief 231 (Henderson) arrived and reported conditions of two (2) patients confined. R31 and E233 arrived together and stabilized the overturned vehicle and began extrication efforts. The front and side windows were removed and the occupants were able to be removed through the front windshield within 10 minutes after arrival. Both southbound lanes of I81 were closed during the incident which created a large traffic backlog. Traffic Units from Hampden and Camp Hill assisted the Traffic Units from both Township Companies. All units were available shortly before 18:00

Crews work on Extinguishing the Fire

RT114 @ Mulberry Dr Accident

6/11-Crews were kept busy on Wednesday responding to multiple incidents. The day started early at 00:35 with both Township Companies and R27 (Citizens) responding to an accident with confinement on RT114 at Shadow Oaks Dr. E233 arrived and was given the assignment to establish a landing zone for aero medical. The crew split setting up the LZ and assisting with extrication and patient removal. Once EMS arrived at the LZ, The remaining crew from E2 assisted with a "hot load" into the helicopter. The Township companies remained on scene fro several hours providing lighting for accident investigation and cleared at 04:06. The next call was a medical assist at 11:39 on Ashburg Dr for cardiac arrest. Sq33 arrived and assisted EMS with patient care. Our last update indicated a resuscitated patient. Sq33 cleared and was sent on another medical assist at 12:04 on Buttonwood Ln. While the squad was committed, Co. 33 was again alerted for a possible dryer fire on S. Madder Dr at 12:18 with Co. 31, 27, and 28. E133, E233, T33 made the response (Sq33 responded after clearing the assist). E133 and T33 arrived first and sent the crew to the interior. T33 provided a supply line to the Engine. The crew from E127 assisted on the interior. The dryer was removed and vent tube was checked finding no fire. It appeared to be a mechanical problem with the dryer, crews then ventilated naturally and cleared at 12:45. A total of 17 members turned out for the response which was excellent for a daylight call. Crews got a short break and were back at it again at 16:50 responding to RT114 near I81 for a truck fire. For the 2nd day in a row units arrived to find an engine and passenger compartment fire and again for the 2nd day the vehicle went into motion while on fire, unfortunately this time it rolled backwards towards E31 where the crew was beginning to advance the bumper line. After a quick panic attack, a fire extinguisher was used to "chock" the rear axle stopping the vehicle a few feet from E31. E31 was repositioned and the fire was extinguished. E133/T33/Traf33 made the response. The final call at 01:48 again sent units to RT114, this time at Mulberry Dr for an accident with confinement into a structure. E233/T33/Traf33 made the response. E233 arrived just after Co. 27 and assisted with patient extrication and checked the interior of the house. All units cleared the scene at 03:05. This incident hit hard a home being that upon arrival, the house that was struck was a member of our fire company and one of the injured persons in the vehicle was a member of Silver Spring. Our prayers go out to a speedy recovery for those who have been affected.

Working Box Truck on I81

6/8-Units from Silver Spring, New Kingstown, and Hampden were dispatched at 14:49 to I81 @ MM 58 Southbound for a Truck Fire. E133 (with 6) and Tanker 33 promptly responded and arrived behind E31. T33 supplied E31 while the crew from E133 pulled a 2nd line off E31 to assist with extinguishment. The crews made quick work of the fire using CAFS lines from E31. Chief 231 (Henderson) held the box to the Township companies and all units were available at 15:37. For the day, Company 33 has responded to a total of 4 calls. Squad 33 handled a medical assist at 09:38, E233 responded to Monroe Township for a dryer fire at 10:14 and Traffic 33 responded to Mechanicsburg around 19:45 to assist with Traffic Control at a garage fire.

C31 then reported a working fire and requested E133 lay a supply line back the lane from Sample Bridge Rd. 1200' of 5" Hose was needed to reach T31. The crew from E133 then assisted with interior operations. A quick stop was made on the fire however the house was charged with smoke. After confirming the fire was out, crews began ventilation assisted by Summerdale firefighters. The 5" line was not needed and Utility 33 responded to the scene to bring the hose back to the station. Co. 33 was available at 02:08 and needed another hour to cleanup and reload the hose at the fire station. Traffic 33 assisted on Sample Bridge Rd and cleared at 01:51 only to be dispatched to assist Shermans Dale closing Spring Rd at Sunnyside Dr in Middlesex Township. Total manpower from Co. 33 was 19

Later in the afternoon, Brush, Tanker, and Chief 33 responded to a lawn mower on fire in the 200 blk of Rich Valley Rd. Chief 33 arrived to find the mower extinguished but some shrubbery and lawn ornaments on fire. CO. 27 FF Martson was on the scene and had the fire "in check" with a can. B33 arrived and pulled the booster line to extinguish while the crew overhauled the area. T33 was canceled. At 17:36, Squad and Chief 33 responded to MM49 on I81 at the request of PSP for a motorists assist. Units arrived to find a rear window broken out and used plastic sheeting and duct tape to secure the open window so the motorist could continue to New Jersey. While working on the window, a 4 vehicle non injury accident occurred when the PSP Trooper used a cross over to leave the scene. We certainly didn't need to excitement of howling tires as rush hours traffic came to a sudden halt. It made for good conversation and even the thought of diving over the berm if needed.

On Sunday while cleaning up from the monthly breakfast, E133/Sq33/C33 responded at 11:19 to the Blue Beacon Truck Wash on Clinton Av for a CO Detector Activation. Crew began to assist EMS until it was reported that the motorcyclist had expired. Crews secured the area and remained on scene assisting the coroners office. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. E233 cleared around 21:45 while the Traffic Unit remained. Just as crews were doffing their gear after returning to the station, Township companies were back on the street to another accident in the 400 blk of Hogestown Rd. A pan of gravy was found on the stove cooked dry. As the crew checked the interior, the occupant of the apartment was found in cardiac arrest in the living room. EMS was immediately requested to enter the structure. E133's crew assisted EMS crews and the Police Department. Attempts to revive the patient were unsuccessful. Additional units arriving assisted with ventilation before being placed available. Co. 33 remained on the scene for well over 1 hour. It appeared the occupant suffered a medical condition while preparing the evening meal. There was very minor damage.

Morning Mess on I81

4/15-Crews were alerted at 08:00 to an accident involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 81 NB at MM55.7. Chief 114 enroute to work stopped and checked on injuries prior to the arrival of apparatus. The backlog of traffic created a mess most of the morning with several vehicles getting stuck in the mud while trying to turn around in the medial strip. Fire Police were dispatched to assist on another accident in the area of MM48. After all patients were transported, fire apparatus cleared the scene. PSP decided it was best to leave an involved tractor trailer (also stuck in the medial mud) there until the afternoon. Fire Police were again dispatched and assisted with traffic control points while I81 was closed to remove the truck. Thanks to all involved. At 20:08, Engine 233 and Traffic 33 responded to assist Co. 31 at an accident on Wertzville Rd at RT114. E233 was canceled enroute, Traffic 33 continued in to assist. While returning, E233 handled a medical assist call on Hilton Head Av.

Early Morning Smoke in Apartment

Remains of the Trash Basket from Discarded Ashtray

Fire may have been extinguished by melted sink pipe drain

4/13-Crews from 33, Silver Spring, Mechanicsburg, and Monroe were on the street at 02:46 for the smoke in the high rise apartment on Ashburg Dr. Both Engines and Tanker made the response. Upon arrival crews investigated the 2nd floor apartment finding the fire out and established positive pressure ventilation. The origin was traced to discarded cigarette ashes in an under sink cabinet. The box was reduced to Co. 33 and E31. Units cleared at 03:36. Pictures to follow later today. Special thanks to Trooper Lindsay for having the knox key released and main door open upon arrival!

4/9-Wednesday yielded 3 afternoon calls beginning with Brush 33 on the transfer to Company 50 (Penn Twp) at 14:09. Brush 33 responded with 3 personnel and transferred with Tanker 39 (North Middleton) while crews battled a large field and woods fire in Dickinson Township. While the Brush was on the transfer, Engine 233 responded with 6 personnel at 15:44 with Company 31 and R27 to an Accident on Hogestown Rd at Woods Dr. E233 arrived and assisted with various tasks. Traffic 33 also responded on the call. Units were available around 15:45. Brush 33 was released from the transfer and returned. While stopping for fuel, a car fire was dispatched for Co. 39 in the 1400 block of Trindle Rd in Middlesex Township. Brush 33 was nearby and promptly responded and arrived with fire in the engine compartment. While the crew packed up, the driver pulled and charged the line. The crew forced the hood and quickly extinguished the fire. T39/C39 arrived behind the Brush and held both units. After a quick mop up, units were available in 15 minutes.

4/6-Crews from Monroe, New Kingstown, Mechanicsburg, Upper Allen, Silver Spring, and Naval Support responded to Nixon Dr for the working house fire this morning. Units arrived with fire showing from Side A, B, and C deploying several lines to quickly attack the fire. E233 positioned to supply E25 but found a hydrant that was not able to be opened. E127 had laid another supply line from a different direction and was fed by E23. T25 and T33 supplied E25. Crews work together to gain control of the fire and then overhaul the structure. The home was a mobile home with a single story frame structure attached to the front with a pitched roof added to and over the flat mobile home roof which created a challenge for crews due to a partial collapse. Units remained on scene in the overhaul mode while the fire marshal investigated the cause tracing it to an electrical outlet near the rear of the home. All units were available by 15:00. Thanks to E313 for the transfer to 33 and for helping us get back in service.
