January Report
2/1-For the month of
January, the Company responded to a total of 33 calls for
service. With the mild weather, our totals were off from last
year. Fire Response - 3, Rescue Calls - 10, Hazardous Condition
- 2, Service Calls - 2, Good Intent - 10, and False Alarms - 6.
The Busiest day of the Week was Saturday with 11 calls. Average
manpower per call was 13. The company was in service a total of
250.29 hours. Apparatus Response was Brush - 1, Chief 33 - 4,
Chief 133 - 7, E133 - 8, E233 - 9, Tanker - 2, Traffic - 4, and
Utility - 1. Top Responder for the month was
FF B. Yohn with 25 calls. |

800 Radio Training
1/31-For the bi-weekly
training, members focused on the 800 radio emergency button
which becomes active on February 1st. Members met in the
training room for the classroom portion and then relocated to
the apparatus bay for hands on training with activating the
button in scenario fashion simulating a MAYDAY. Thanks to the 28
members in attendance tonight! Members that were unable to make
tonight's training, should contact the Fire Chief in order to
complete this training. |

Republican Breakfast



1/29-Senator Vance and Representative Grell
hosted a petition signing at the fire station today from
11am-2pm. Members of the NKFC were asked to do a modified
breakfast/brunch buffet for those attending. Nearly 200 people
turned to support the Republican Party. Thanks again to Senator
Vance and Representative Grell for your support of the fire
company. |

Annual Banquet
1/28-Members took time
Saturday evening to reflect on 2011 and celebrate at our annual
fire company banquet. We had a very enjoyable evening. For

thanks to our friends at West Shore Bureau of Fire who covered
the 33 House from 1600 Saturday until 0800 Sunday morning. As
luck would have it, there were no calls during their visit. |

RIT to Upper Allen House
Fire



1/24-E233 (with 6) responded at 13:42 for RIT
(Rapid Intervention Team) on the House Fire on Beacon Cr in
Upper Allen Twp. E233 arrived and the crew set up equipment
behind E223. C133 assisted with ground ladders and performed a
360 of the structure. The crew stood by for an hour before being
released and returned at 15:13. Additional information an

Two on the Turnpike
1/21-After finally
receiving a "seasonal" snow fall, members worked around the
station taking care of snow removal and the Line Officers met
for their first meeting of the new year. At 10:34, Companies 33
and 23 (Upper Allen) responded to MM 234 Westbound for an auto
accident. E233 (with 7) and Chief 33 responded. Command 23 had
the units from NK stage at the east bound access gate due to
road conditions and the report of patient out of the vehicle.
Co. 33 was placed available at 10:48. As members were preparing
to serve a banquet, Companies 33 and 45 (CFRS), and Tanker 41
(Union) responded to the Carlisle Interchange of the Turnpike at
17:22 for a report of smoke from the tollbooth. E133 (with 7)
and T33 responded. The crew from E133 assisted 45 with
investigation and making access to the heating unit. After
confirming no fire or extension, the incident was released to
Turnpike Maintenance. The incident was cleared at 17:53. Finally
for the day, E233 (with 7) and Utility 33 responded to Circle Dr
in Middlesex Township for forcible entry on a medical call at
20:55. After making a thorough check of the residence exterior,
the decision was made to force entry into a garage door window
causing the least amount of damage. Crews assisted EMS with
patient packaging and clearing snow to get the litter from the
residence to the ambulance. Units were available at 21:46. In a
three calls, manpower was left on station to cover the remaining
rigs. For the 3 calls, manpower average was 18. |

Line of Duty Death in
Adams County

1/19-Press release from United Hook & Ladder
- It is with deep regret that the membership of the United Hook
& Ladder Company #33 announces the death of Firefighter Brandon
Little who died on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 while operating
in the line of duty. A public viewing will be held on Sunday,
January 22 from 1800 to 2200 hours at the Immaculate Heart of
Mary Parish, 6084 Canal Road in Abbottstown. A full Fire
Department Funeral will be celebrated on Monday, January 23,
2012 @ 1100 hours at the same location. Any department wishing
to bring apparatus to the funeral should limit to one piece,
report to the church by 1000 hours, and RSVP by Sunday, January
22nd at noon to
Captain 33-1 (Poist) by calling 624-7456 (United Hook & Ladder,
New Oxford Station) or emailing
ffpoist@hotmail.com. We
would like to thank our fellow firefighters, officers, and
departments for their prayers and support during this most
difficult time.
As as result of this L.O.D.D, New Kingstown Fire has been asked
to cover for Adams County Station 33 this Sunday evening from
Midnight to 0600 with Engine 233. A crew is needed for this
standby. Deputy Chief Horning is coordinating, members should
contact him directly.
Also, NKFC will be attending the funeral services on Monday,
please sign up at the station if you are interested in
attending.

1/14-E233 (with 6), T33
(with 1), and Traffic 33 responded for the Garage Fire attached
to a House at 04:20 hours. 1st Due E25 arrived with fire showing
from the garage and quickly put lines into service. E233 arrived
and set up for RIT duties. T33 arrived and prepared to supply
Tanker 25. Crews worked to contain the fire to the garage and
checked for extension into the main house. T33 was released and
transferred to Station 25 after 45 minutes on scene. E233

Another Early Morning
Crash


1/10-E233 and Traffic 33 responded at 06:13
this morning to Wertzville Rd & Deer Ln for an auto accident
with a pole sheared off. Police Department arrived and found the
address in Silver Spring Twp which added E/R31. The occupant was
out of the vehicle upon arrival. Crews remained on scene until
PPL arrived on the scene. E233 cleared at 06:58. Traffic 33
finally cleared at 08:51 once the roadway was safe and passable. |

Early Morning Wreck on
the Pike



1/9-E233, Sq33, R31, and Traffic 33 responded
to this early morning accident on the Carlisle Pike at Louis
Parkway at 05:58. Chief 33 was advised of confinement upon
response. E233 arrived and stabilized the vehicle, crews were
able to hyper extend the door in order to removed the driver.
Crews also secured both vehicles, contained fluids, and removed
a large debris field. Apparatus cleared the scene at 06:50 |

State Rd & Texaco Rd
Accident



1/7-E233, Sq33, and Traffic 33 responded to
State Rd and Texaco Rd for an auto accident with a vehicle
overturned at 15:51 hours with Company 31. C133 arrived with a
single vehicle overturned and a 2nd vehicle on Texaco Rd. Co. 33
and R31 arrived splitting crews to assist EMS and secure
vehicles. Crews remained on scene until Miller & Sam's removed
both vehicles and all debris were cleared. 33 had 22 members on
this incident. Units were available at 16:44. Co. 33 responded
to a total of 4 call for the day. |

Rolling the old hose
1/6-In just a few short hours the old 5" hose
was removed from service and the new was loaded. Both Engines,
Tanker, and the Pump Trailer all received the new hose. Thanks
to the crew of members who worked all morning taking care of
this task. Pap's Pizza was on the plate for lunch and then a few
household tasks were completed before calling it a day. Look for
the new yellow ribbon to be layed out at a scene near you! |

1/6-The New Kingstown Fire
Company has Used 5" Hose in 100 foot sections available for
purchase for $75.00 per section. A total of 2500 feet is
available. Interested Departments may purchase in bulk or by the
section. Contact Fire Chief Curtis Hall at 717-648-5871 for additional
information and availability. |

2011 Year End Report
1/5-For the Year of 2011,
the Fire Company responded to a total of 814 incidents, the most
the fire company has ever handled in a single year. Run down is
as follows: Fire-92, Rescue-203, Hazardous Condition-81, Service
Calls-133, Good Intent-149, False Alarms-133, Severe Weather-23.
The busiest day of the week was Thursday with 142 runs. Average
turnout per call over the year was 13. The total staff hours
were 8,052.77. A total of 162 calls were from 2300-0659, 324
calls from 0700-1459, and 328 calls from 1500-2259 hours. A
total of 471 calls were in the 33 (Silver Spring) or 133
(Middlesex) box response areas. Apparatus Response was as
follows:

3 Story Commercial
1/4-E133 (with 6) responded at
00:14 hours to assist Co. 31 with an AFA at a 3 story commercial
multiple occupancy structure. Crews searched all 3 floors and
the basement of the former PHICO Building finding alarm
activation but no conditions. E133 was released at 01:06 as E31
remained waiting on the reset. E233 remained staffed in station. |

1/3-Crews began the task of
unrolling 3,175 feet of brand new 5" hose at 09:00. All of the
hose needed to be stenciled with our company number and section
number. Crews worked all day, taking a break for the January
Fire Company meeting, then continuing until 02:00 hours
completing the task. The new hose will be placed on the
apparatus this Friday. Thanks to all of the members who helped
throughout the day and evening. The new hose was purchased in
part through the State Fire Commissioners Grant and the
Firefighter's Relief Association. |

Year-Transfer to Co. 36 #2
1/2-For the 2nd year in a
row, the first call of the year was a transfer to Co. 36 Station
#2. E233 responded at 13:40 hours and cleared with no calls at
15:16. |

New Year's Dinner



1/1-The 1st event of the new year was our
annual Pork & Sauerkraut Buffet. A total of 245 people were
served which is right in line with last year's attendance.

12/30-Join us for our
annual New Year's Day Pork & Sauerkraut Buffet Dinner. Doors
Open at 11am and the event runs until 3pm. Buffet Meal includes:
Roast Pork, Sauerkraut, Hot Dogs, Mashed Potatoes, Filling,
Corn, Gravy, Roll & Butter, Dessert, and Beverage. Adults are
$8.50, Children 6-12 are $3.50, and those 5 and under are free.
Take Out Meals are available as well. For those interested, our
Pork and Sauerkraut are baked and severed seperate. Join Us for

Late Evening Crash on
I81

12/30-Engine 233, Traffic 33, and R45
responded at 23:54 onto I81 just north of Exit 52 for an auto
accident. Chief 7 arrived with a single vehicle that was struck
by a tractor trailer. The Engine crew stabilized the vehicle
until the patient was removed. Crews checked for hazards and
secured the vehicle. Apparatus cleared the scene at 00:17 |

responded at 18:29 to Sample Bridge Rd at I81 overpass for an
accident with Company 31. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle
on the bridge as a result of icy conditions. Crews secured the
vehicle and removed debris. Units remained on scene with the
roadway closed until it could be properly salted to make it safe
to travel. Units cleared at 19:09. |

12/29-E233, Sq33, and Traffic
33 responded to RT11 and RT114 at 07:40 this morning for an
accident upgraded to confinement after original dispatch. E233
and R31 arrived together and began stabilization of both
vehicles. Crews removed the passenger side window in order to
make access for EMS then removed the driver's door with the
spreader in order to extricate the patient. Sq33 arrived and
sent its crew to assist. Extrication was completed in 11 minutes
after arrival time. Crews cleared the scene at 08:45. Co.33 had
15 members on the scene. |

In Memory of Blake
Lawrence

12/19-In memory of our good friend, fellow
firefighter, and 9-1-1 Dispatcher Blake Lawrence. Blake was a
lifelong member of Citizens Fire and Rescue of Mechanicsburg and
lost a courageous battle with cancer December 19th. His strong
will and unending courage will be remembered by all. In Blake's
honor, a Company 33 is opening our social hall to Co. 27 for a
memorial service Tuesday, December 27th from 5pm-9pm. Please

Announce Passing of Member, Blake T. Lawrence
(Mechanicsburg, PA) – It is with great sadness that Citizens
Fire & Rescue Co. #27 announce the passing of one of its
members, Blake T. Lawrence, 41 years old, on Monday, December 19
after a brave battle with cancer. There will be visitation from
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27 at the New Kingstown
Fire Hall, 277 N. Locust Point Rd, New Kingstown. Memorial
services will be held Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00 AM at
Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg followed by a luncheon at
Citizens Fire House, 208 S. York St., Mechanicsburg. Highest
class dress uniform is preferred for Tuesday’s event. Apparatus
is not suggested for Wednesday’s services. Additional
information, including a full obituary, will appear in the
Carlisle Sentinel and Harrisburg Patriot News later this week.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and
gratitude to the entire first responder community for their
generous support throughout the duration of Blake’s illness and
unexpected passing.

Call 800 Reached This
Morning
12/21-After running 7 calls
yesterday, crews responded to call #800 this morning running to
I81 SB in the area of Exit 57 for a possible tractor trailer
fire. Chief 231 had units stage off the Interstate shortly while
he confirmed no fire. This is the 1st time in the history of the
Fire Company we have responded to over 800 calls. |

12/20-After running a
pedestrian struck, medical assist, and AFA, Co.33 responded with
Co. 31 and Truck 30 for a parachutist stuck in a tree on
Glendale Dr. E233 (with 5) arrived just behind Chief 131
(Morton). C33 was asked to take operations and the crew made
their way into the wooded area. York Rescue 69 was also on the
call due to the parachutist being from the Army Base. Crews
worked up a plan due to no access to position Truck 30's boom.
Crews used a 35' ladder and telescoping pole to push a belay
line to the individual. He already had a harness in placed from
the jump and was not injured. He was able to follow directions
and had experience in ropes and knots and was able to get set up
to be lowered by the rope line. 28 Minutes after the arrival of
Truck 30 the individual was safely on the ground. Thanks to all
departments working together to bring this incident to a
successful close. The was definitely a first for our department
with this type of rescue. |

Providing Meals for
Needy Families


12/20-This year, as in many past years, the
New Kingstown Fire Company members provided meals for one needy
family at each school in Silver Spring and Middlesex Townships.
Members donated money or meal items and then went to Giant in
Silver Spring Township to purchase what was needed to provide a
complete Holiday Meals. The crew loaded E133 this morning and
set out to deliver our packages to Eagle View Middle School,
Silver Spring, Green Ridge, and Middlesex Elementary Schools. We
never know who we are providing the meals too, we only know the
fact that we are making someone's holiday that much more
special. We hope that the families enjoy their meal. Thanks to
Fire Company Secretary Joyce Eberly for spearheading again this
year and to our members for their generous contributions. |

Small 1st Due Fire



12/18-1st Alarm was sent at 12:23 for a fire
in the bathroom reported out on Old Stonehouse Rd. C33 arrived
with normal conditions and investigated. E133 sent its crew
interior and confirmed the fire was out and set up to ventilate
the light smoke condition. Power was already secured. Command
held E133 and E127. Cause determined to be clothing that was
left laying on the heater. Crews cleared the scene at 13:00 but not
before making sure the resident's smoke detectors were in
working order. |

12/15-The final meat raffle
for 2011 will be held this Friday, December 16th. The meal will
be Spaghetti with Bread and Applesauce. Special rounds this
month will be boneless pork loins and 1/2 Hog. Small games of
chance will also be available. Bring a friend or two and come
out for a great evening. Doors open at 5:30pm! |

12/9-Santa teamed up with New
Kingstown Firefighters Saturday and visited our 1st due areas of
Silver Spring and Middlesex Townships. The crew got an early
start to the day with breakfast at 7:45 at the station then set
out to begin the visits at 9am. Crews ran all day stopping
briefly for lunch from the NK Deli. We finished the afternoon
just after 4pm with all of our route completed. After cleaning
up, setting up for breakfast on Sunday and running a Fire Alarm,
we all met at Hoss's in Middlesex Twp. for a much needed Dinner.
Thanks to everyone that came out to greet us. We also appreciate
the many donations including cookies and munchkin donuts!!
Thanks again!. Special thanks to the Crew from West Shore Bureau
of Fire (E313) that stood by for the day.....even though we
waited to run a call until after they left for the day! |

Close Call for the Driver
12/9-E233 started the day at
07:51 responding to Bernheisel Bridge Rd near the creek for a
single vehicle accident. Chief 7 was advised of a vehicle into a
tree as a result of icy conditions. E233 and EMS arrived to find
occupants self extricated and refusing treatment. E233 crew
secured the vehicle and stood by until the wreckage was cleared
going available at 08:30. Sq33 handled a medical assist at
08:00. At 11:36, the Township companies were hit for an accident
on I81 SB at MM56. Chief 236 (Otto) was in the area and reported
a tractor trailer into the bridge. C231 arrived and held the
response to EMS, E233, and both Traffic Units. E233 crew checked
for hazards then cleared debris. The Engine cleared at 12:09 and
the Traffic Units remained until the wreckage was cleared at
12:36. |

12/7-Members got together Wednesday and
Thursday night to package the candy donated for the annual Santa
Run planned for the Saturday. Over 1000 bags were packaged
during the two night operation. Santa hits the road with NKFC
Saturday morning at 9am! |

Spring Township Tree Lighting at Co. 31's Social Hall. The crew
took time to catch a photo op with the "jolly old elf". Despite

Springs & Trindle Roads in Monroe Twp at 09:44. C33 arrived with
two vehicles involved and all patients out of the vehicles. E233
arrived and split crews to assist EMS and check vehicles for
hazards. E25 assisted upon arrival. Traffic 33 closed the
intersection for the duration. Units cleared the scene at 10:31. |

12/2-Several of the Ladies got together to
make cookies at the Fire Station then exchange them. Several
different selections were baked. Hopefully this can be an annual
tradition at the Station. |
