| After well over a year without the station fire siren active, all electrical repairs were completed Thursday afternoon making the siren operational once again. The siren was properly tested and then has sounded for calls twice since this afternoon. Many newer residents to New Kingstown may not have heard the siren in the past. It will blow one solid tone for 30 seconds and then shut off. The siren is used as an alternative alert for members. There is no cause for alarm to residents as the siren is only used for incident response. Any severe weather alert such as a storm warning will not active our siren. Many companies no longer use a house siren, however in the strong tradition of our company the siren has been a constant since the 1940's. Back then, the siren was the primary means of alerting members - long before scanner, pagers, and phone apps. We welcome the return of the familiar sound! |
