By Chief Curtis Hall
February 2, 2026

Sunday evening at 16:25, the township companies were sent for a fire alarm. As E33 (with 5) prepared to respond a first due garage fire was dispatched at nearly the same time. E33 responded to the fire followed by Tanker 33 (with 2). Chief 33 had a good smoke header visible leaving the village. E33 and C33 arrived within 4 minutes with a 20x30 detatched garage to the rear of the residence. The garage was fully involved in fire and had a carport and another shed exposed. There was no driveway access so crews hand to run lines through the snowpack back to the scene. Two (2) 300 foot 3" leader lines were stretched and gated to 3 - 1 3/4" lines in order to begin fire attack. Water was flowing 6 mins after arrival, given the circumstances crews did an outstanding job getting lines in place. Due to no hydrants in this area, a tanker task force was requested (one engine, 3 tankers). Tanker 33 established a 5" supply line to E33. E31 arrived and pumped a 5" line to Tanker 33. The Siamese was setup and tankers pumped this to E31. Assist Tankers were E225, T41, and Perry Tanker 12. Sq29 established a fill site on N Locust Point Rd at Station 33; this allowed for east access for Tankers to turn around to refill. There was no loss of water at any time during the incident. Crews worked for over an hour to gain control of the fire with extensive overhaul needed afterwards. The temperature was in the mid 20's with a good breeze lowering the temps at the scene. Units cleared the scene just before 20:00 and needed over an hour of cleanup at the station to be ready for the next alarm. Cause of the fire is under investigation by Silver Spring Township officials. Despite to cold and slick surfaces, only a few falls occurred with no related injuries. Thanks to Silver Spring EMS for rehab supplies and several of the fire company ladies bringing coffee and hot chocolate to the scene as well as preparing a hot meal when we returned to the station. Thanks to West Shore Bureau of Fire for transferring to Station 33 and assisting getting us back inservice.
