I81 Traffic Collision

The Township Companies responded to Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 53.9 at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. Responding units included Squad 33 with seven personnel, Engine 33 with two personnel, traffic unit, and Chief 33 responding from Station 33. Company 31 responded with Squad, Engine, Traffic, and Utility.

Upon receiving information about a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer, Chief 33 arrived on the scene. The chief found a passenger vehicle resting against the guard rail, with what appeared to be a person confined inside. Squad 33 arrived shortly after, and the crew assessed the situation for injuries and hazards. It was determined that there was no entrapment.

The tractor trailer, which was parked ahead of the incident scene, did not sustain major damage. Chief 33 scaled back the response to Company 33 and Township Fire Police only. Both Engine 33 and Squad 33 cleared the scene at 10:26 p.m., with Chief 33 and Fire Police leaving at 10:56 p.m. Throughout the incident, one lane of traffic remained safely open.
