The New Kingstown Fire Company has a very successful live in firefighter program. Having members "in station" allows for an immediate response to any incident, regardless of the time of day. With their work schedules, there are times when they are not all available. We also have a bunk room available for members who are able to "casually" bunk in as their time allows. E33 responded with a full crew of 6 members this morning, followed by Tanker 33. Both rigs had paid drivers operating them due to the time of day and prior to shift change at 06:00. Respond from home members went to the station, once the transfer company was in place, Utility 233 was brought to the scene and used for hose and equipment as well as a run to Dunkin for coffee and donuts. We also had two of our fire police who assisted with closing the roadway for the duration-which presents challenges all in its own. Fire Police control traffic flow and the priority is getting apparatus safely in and out of the fire scene. Once the fire was out, the crew members were tasked with clean up of all equipment used at the scene as well as the apparatus. While all of this is second nature, we still must give kudos to those who continue to do what is asked of them and more.
While it isn't for everyone, we still need more members to help carry on the tradition - if you are 14 and over, and think this sparks and interest, stop by anytime between 0800 and 2000 any day of the week; we would be glad to show you are and answer any questions you might have!
