| Shortly after returning from a vehicle collision on Friday, the Township Companies and Tower 29 responded to a call for a reported gas leak at a residence in the 33-02 Box area. Engine 33, which was returning from a fuel run, was the first to arrive and staged at the nearest intersection by a hydrant, followed by Squad 33 with four personnel. Company 31 and Tower 29 accessed the scene from the north side of the development and staged at a nearby intersection.
Chief 33 took command of the investigation group. After a thorough search, crews discovered a small gas leak in a utility closet. The incident response was scaled back to just Company 33, and their units were repositioned to allow residents better access to the area. Company 33 remained on site until released by utility personnel from UGI.
Later on Friday evening, Engine (5) and Squad (2) assisted Company 31 with a separate residential gas leak. Crews secured the gas at the meter due to gas readings and a strong odor detected just inside the front door. Fire and EMS personnel remained on scene for approximately one hour. |
