The annual awards banquet was held on Saturday, January 28th at the Comfort
Suites Hotel in Carlisle, PA. We take time each year to recognize our members
for their continued support of the fire company. The banquet began with "happy
hour" at 16:30. Nearly 200 members, honored guests, and mutual aid officers
attended this year. During this time frame members and guests were able to
mingle around and catch up with each other during a social time. Many stories
and memories of the past year were discussed and everyone enjoyed the
camaraderie shared during this time. The meal began at 17:30 with the opening
prayer by Ted Adams. The meal was served buffet style and included garden salad,
fresh fruit, stuffed chicken breast, baked ham, prime rib, mashed potatoes,
cooked vegetables, cake and pie, and beverages. The awards ceremony followed. Several awards were handed down by
Chief Curtis Hall and President James Hall. Mutual Aid representatives in
attendance were thanked for their continued support over the past year. Those in

Rookie of the Year Award

Keegan with the Chief Officers
Rookie of the Year went to Keegan Toot. Keegan has been a member for
just over a year and is our current "live-in" firefighter. Keegan has
worked over the past year attending several
training classes, ran fire calls, helped with numerous fund raisers. This was in
addition to his daily firehouse chores and a full time job.
Junior Member of the Year Award

Junior member of the year went to Dillon Blais. Dillon attended our very first "Wacker
Weekend" held at the fire station several years ago. Just as we asked,
he joined the fire company when he reached age 14. Dillon has been an
asset to the fire company and is willing to help out where ever he is
needed including making sure the rigs are spotless.
Firefighter of the Year

The Firefighter of the Year award was given to Josh Baney. Josh has been
a member of the fire station for several years and during 2011 took over
our fire prevention and education programs. Through his leadership, we
were able to reach out to over 2000 kids and adults this past year.
In addition to the awards given to our responders by the Chief's,
President James Hall issued plaques to several members of the community
who continue to provide assistance to the fire company.
Lawrence Chevrolet

Award presented to Gary and Joan Lawrence and
Lawrence Chevrolet. Gary has been a supporter of the fire company in
many ways. He has provided numerous skids of bottled water for our
events including our annual festival. He also assisted us with
purchasing both Chevrolet Tahoes in use by the Fire Chief and Deputy
Chief. Gary and His wife attend many of our events including the monthly
breakfast buffets. We thank Gary for his continued support
Silver Spring Township Business Advisory Council

President Hall presented the award to Georgeane
Diener, Committee Member. The Township Business Advisory Council
conducts a Golf Tournament with the proceeds being split between the
Emergency Services of Silver Spring Township (Fire and EMS). In the past
two years, over 20,000.00 has been raised. This year, the tournament was
held on one of the warmest days in July. Thank You to the BAC!
New Kingstown Vision Committee

The NK Vision Committee was organized out of a dream
of Kathi Pifer, NK Resident, who wanted to see New Kingstown be a better
place to live. She and her committee have done great work over the past
several years and even more now that Main Street no longer carries the
Northbound Lanes of the Carlisle Pike. They are determined to make New
Kingstown into a fine town. A major accomplishment this year was the
planting of over 30 trees along East Main Street and Locust Point Road.
More things are planned this year as well. The Award was presented to
Committee Secretary Quinn Hock, who also takes care of the monthly
newsletter.
Silver Spring Veteran's Committee
This award was presented to retired Master Sergeant
Kurt Minnich. A dream of many veterans of the Township came into reality
this year as the permanent monument was dedicated on Veteran's Day at
Willow Mill Park. The monument honors our veterans of all branches of
the Military. Kurt was in attendance, but had to leave before to award
was presented. We will make arrangements to present this award.
Meritorious Service Award
President James Hall, Senator Vance, and
Representatives Grell and Bloom presented plaques and certificates to
the following members for 50 years of service to the New Kingstown Fire
Company. 50 years of service, half the life of the fire company, what
can you say about members that continue to be active in this department
and are around the station almost daily. Thanks for always being there
in many capacities!

Ed Beam is presented with his Award
Weskem Technologies
After receiving the World Trade Center Steel, the
fire company contacted Wayne Stevenson. Wayne is a township resident and
business owner (Weskem) in the township. Wayne's background in fine
machine work was brought into play as he built a suitable pedestel for
displaying the World Trade Center Steel which was in place for our
annual Festival then dedicated on September 11th, 2011 at the fire
station's Firefighter Memorial Brick Garden. Thanks to Wayne for his
expertise once again. Mr. Stevenson was unable to attend the banquet and
the award will be presented to him at a later date.
